Design Intent: Our group wanted create a device that could peel apples loaded onto a revolving tray. The mechanism is powered by a single motor that output shaft is connected to a planetary gear box. A single motor that drives the peeler and tray allows the mechanism to always be timed without the use of a micro-controller. The horizontal gear train operates the intermittent rotation of the tray via a Geneva wheel as well as rotates the apples on skewers. The vertical gear train rotates a spring loaded peeler that is guided along a cam profile.
